Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017 and was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as San Francisco's district attorney. In 2010, Harris was elected Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for undocumented immigrant immigrants as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons as well as progressive tax reform. She is best known for her direct questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
